September 2026 Tripletail Fishing Report — Tampa Bay, FL
The tripletail bite is on and heating up here in Tampa Bay. If you have never targeted this species before, now is a great time to give them a shot.
Tripletail Are Showing Up Around Structure
Tripletail have been holding around the kind of structure they are known for, including crab trap buoys, channel markers, and floating debris.
These fish like to sit up near the surface next to anything floating on the water, using it for shade and cover while they wait to ambush bait. Working these types of structure is the classic way to find them this time of year.
A Hard Fighting, Great Eating Fish
Do not let their odd shape fool you. Tripletail fight hard, and they keep fighting all the way to the boat, which makes for a fun surprise for anglers who have not caught one before.
They are also outstanding table fare, which is part of why this bite gets so much attention when it turns on. To keep one, tripletail must measure at least 18 inches to be legally harvested.
