Fishing Report

Tampa Bay Bottom Fishing Report – January

Overall Bottom Bite

If filling the cooler is the goal, bottom fishing has been hard to beat. The bite has been hot, and every drop comes with the chance of something different coming over the rail.

Nearshore Bottom Fishing

Closer to shore, we’ve been catching plenty of gray snapper (white grunt), mangrove snapper, red grouper, and lots of sheepshead. It’s steady fishing and a great option for mixed-experience groups.

Offshore Bottom Fishing

Offshore trips have been producing bigger mixed bags. Red grouper, lane snapper, mangrove snapper, triggerfish, porgies, and hog snapper (hogfish) have all been showing up, keeping things interesting all day.

Year-Round Opportunity

Bottom fishing works year-round in Tampa Bay. Whether you want a shorter nearshore trip or a longer offshore run, it’s an easy way to stay on fish no matter the season.

Looking for a True Meat Trip?

If your goal is a full cooler and a variety of quality fish, bottom fishing is the move.

Whether you want to stay nearshore or head offshore, we’ll match you with the right captain and trip for your group.
